Overalls invite adjustment, but their straps are not a complete sizing system. Raising them changes the bib position and the crotch height at the same time. Lowering them may ease torso tension while leaving the top too low. Start by finding a comfortable relationship between all three areas rather than tightening until the garment looks like a product photo.

Put the overalls on over the kind of shirt you will wear with them. A thick sweatshirt occupies more space beneath the bib and at the sides than a fitted tee. Fasten the side closures, if present, and settle the straps evenly.

Sit before shortening the straps

Sit in a chair and lean forward. If the straps pull hard at the shoulders or the seat feels drawn upward, try lengthening them slightly. Then stand and check the bib. If comfortable seated length leaves the bib much lower than you want, a different torso proportion may work better than further adjustment.

Look at the sides when you reach. Large openings may show more of the shirt or underlayer than expected. That can be part of the style, but make sure it suits the outfits you intend to wear. A narrow bib also changes coverage independently of overall size.

Operate the strap hardware without assistance. Buckles and clasps should be manageable for you, and the loose ends should not hang where they repeatedly catch. Hardware that looks sturdy can still be awkward to release or adjust.

Test the pockets with restraint

A bib pocket is highly visible, so a phone inside it may change the way the front lies. Lower pockets can be useful, but overfilling them adds weight to a garment partly supported from the shoulders. Check a representative load rather than treating every compartment as storage to fill.

Walk in your intended shoes and see whether the legs need a cuff or alteration. A thick rolled hem can look deliberate, but it also changes the weight at the ankle. Keep the return decision open until you know whether the complete fit works.

Overalls are most convenient when the adjustments have some room left in both directions. If every strap and side setting is at an extreme, another size or cut may offer a more comfortable everyday fit.
