Slip-on shoes remove the need to tie laces, but they also remove one way to adjust fit. Their security depends on the relationship between the heel, upper, elastic panels, and your foot. A pair that feels easy to step into can be too loose once you begin walking.

Put on both shoes with the socks or hosiery you intend to use. Do not test them barefoot if that is not how you will wear them. Seat your heel fully, then stand and let the upper settle. Check for pressure across the instep before taking a few steps.

Watch the heel through a stride

Walk at a normal pace, turn, and stop. Some designs move slightly with the heel, but repeated large lifting or rubbing deserves attention. If you are changing your walk to keep the shoes on, the convenience of the slip-on construction is being lost.

Compare another size carefully. A smaller one may hold the heel while crowding the toes; a larger one may ease the instep while increasing movement at the back. When those tradeoffs appear, a different shape or volume can be more useful than choosing between two imperfect lengths.

Elastic gussets should have some working range. If they are pulled taut immediately or barely engage the foot, ask whether the model suits your proportions. Decorative elastic does not necessarily offer meaningful adjustment.

Use additions cautiously

An extra insole or heel grip can change the interior space, but it may also lift your heel higher into the collar or reduce toe room. Do not assume accessories will rescue a fundamentally incompatible shoe. If you use an insole regularly, bring it to the fitting and confirm that the shoe accommodates it as intended.

Try the pair during the kind of movement that matters to you, within a clean indoor return-safe test. A few comfortable steps are not proof of all-day performance, but obvious slipping or pressure is useful information. There is no need to wait for outdoor wear to confirm a problem already present.

Choose the slip-on because it is both easy to put on and stable to wear. If the shape cannot provide both, a lace-up or adjustable strap may offer the same general style with a better fit.
