Cashback can make an already-planned purchase more appealing, but it is not always deducted at checkout. A service may need to recognize the shopping visit, receive confirmation from the merchant, and wait through its approval process. That makes the initial price and the eventual reward two separate parts of the decision.

Before following a cashback offer, read the terms for that specific retailer and product category. A headline rate can have exclusions or different rates for different purchases. Gift cards, shipping, tax, subscriptions, or certain brands may receive different treatment; the actual offer controls the answer.

Understand what starts the shopping visit

Services generally describe a particular activation or click-through process. Follow the current instructions if you decide to participate. Switching devices, using a separate app, opening other promotional links, or entering a code from another source may affect eligibility under the service's rules.

For example, Rakuten's published exclusions explain that using coupon codes not listed by its service can affect cashback eligibility. That is a specific service rule, not proof that every other program uses the same condition. Read the provider's current retailer terms before combining an advertised reward with another offer.

Keep privacy choices deliberate

Tracking settings can affect whether a service recognizes a transaction. Do not switch off protections or accept permissions automatically because a shopping prompt asks you to. Decide whether the possible reward is worth the required data use and whether the service explains it clearly. You can complete a purchase without pursuing cashback if the tradeoff does not suit you.

Save the order confirmation, the activation record if provided, and the offer conditions that applied. This gives you a basis for a missing-reward inquiry without needing to reconstruct several browsing sessions later. Never send complete payment-card details as evidence for an ordinary reward claim.

Pending is not spendable

A pending amount is not the same as a confirmed payment. Returns, cancellations, order changes, and excluded items can change the final reward. Check the payment method, minimum payout, and expected confirmation process before valuing the offer.

When comparing stores, first compare the delivered price and return conditions without cashback. Then note the possible reward separately. If one store is clearly more expensive unless an uncertain payment arrives, recognize that dependency before buying. Cashback works best as an extra benefit on a purchase that makes sense on its own.
